Corner bathtubs are quickly gaining ground as a must have focal point for any modern bathroom. One of the most important things to remember when shopping for a new tub, however, is knowing how to correctly measure your bathroom to accommodate the space needed for various corner bathtub dimensions.
Which Measurements Are Important?
The key measurement that will determine if your new or remodeled bathroom is suited for a corner bathtub is the amount of wall space available in the corner of the room you wish to install the tub in. You also need to measure for the length of the tub from side to side, which shouldn’t be an issue if you have measured the side length correctly. Last, but definitely not least, you need to determine the width of the tub from the front edge to the back corner. If you are looking at getting a sunken tub, also check to make sure your home can accommodate the extra space needed below flooring level for the added depth.
What Are The Standard Sizes?
The most common size of corner bathtub on the market today is five feet in length along each wall. This means that you should measure your bathroom from the corner outwards along the wall to ensure you have at least five feet of clearance in either direction. If you have the necessary five feet of clearance on both sides of the tub, as long as the area from point to point on the walls is clear, then the length of the tub shouldn’t be an issue.
The width of the tub, from front to back, is important primarily because of the various styles of tubs on the market. There really is no standard measurement on the market for depth since the measurements will vary greatly depending upon which shape of tub you choose. Five sided corner tubs require the least amount of width but some consumers choose to go with a bow front corner bathtub which may require extra space depending on the size of the arch.
