Kitchen Sink Taps

One of the immediate things consumers will notice when shopping for sink taps, more commonly known as sink faucets, is the variety of designs, styles, and composition materials are offered on the market. While bathroom models come in a variety of more decorative designs, kitchen sink taps tend to have increased functionality as well as visual appeal. This is due primarily to the multi-function nature of a kitchen sink in general. Even with the emphasis on functional nature, they can be found in a range of visually impacting designs as well.

What Types Of Kitchen Sink Taps Are There?

Kitchen sink taps are essentially found in a range of styles with anywhere from one to four stem components. The various components serve an array of functional conveniences and are typically selected based on personal preference and actual needs. Single stem sinks are common for simplistic and minimalistic designs. They have one basic function, which is to provide various flow levels of hot and cold water into the sink. Triple stem designs offer the same basic functions, with a slightly different visual presence, including separate handles for each of the hot and cold water functions. Unlike bathroom sinks, kitchen sink taps are also commonly found in four stem designs as well. The fourth stem is used to accommodate a sprayer nozzle, ideal for washing dishes and adding more specific user control over the direction of the water flow.

Why Is The Number Of Stems Important?

These various number of stem designs mean that when you are purchasing a sink, you need to keep the style of faucet in mind in order to ensure the sink is equipped with the correct number of access holes. The same rule applies if you are buying a faucet for a sink you already own. Three and four stem designs can be interchangeable in the fact that a three stem faucet can be installed on a four stem sink. The fourth hole, reserved for the spray nozzle component, would simply be covered up by the mounting plate. If you are on the market for both a sink and a tap, some manufacturers offer boxed sets to ensure both a compatible fit of the two components, as well as a matching visual style.

For a whimsical, but functional novelty addition, some kitchen taps can be fitted with an LED sensor that lights up blue or red, indicating the temperature of the water passing through it. This is especially handy in households with young children to better help avoid little hands reaching into hot water.
