There are many memories we keep with us from childhood that always help to remind us of the innocence and carefree nature we possessed as children. None of these memories brings these feelings back to us like the memories of playing in the rain. We would watch as the sky grew dark and the tiny drops of water would begin falling from the sky. As the rain showers grew stronger, we danced and played in their cleansing waters, not a care in the world, with not even the slightest concern over the looks our mothers would have on their faces as we returned home dripping wet. As grown ups, it is somewhat more difficult to find the time to play in the rain, however, with a special category of unique shower heads, we can relive that same feeling every time we take a shower.
What Are Shower Heads?
The majority of shower heads on the market are designed for the basic purpose of delivering water from the plumbing lines to our showers in various patterns and output levels. Many have settings that let us adjust the water pressure, flow concentration, and pulsation patterns. These standard shower heads can be mounted to the wall in a fixed position, or designed as a hand held unit that can be removed from its mounting when needed. They tend to range in size from two to five inches across the surface of the shower head, allowing for a moderate are of water dispersal.
What Are Rain Shower Heads?
A rain shower head, on the other hand, is designed with one specific task in mind, creating a shower effect that replicates the look and feel of a natural rainfall. The heads on these rain showers are typically six inches or larger, sometime measuring several feet in length and stretching the entire shower area. They work by pushing the water in extremely light pulsations through several small holes incorporated into the shower head. The pulsation effect minimizes the uniform water flow effect created by standard shower heads, better mimicking the slightly randomized feeling of a true rain fall. In the rain shower head category of products, there are two major types of units, ceiling mounted shower heads and wall mounted shower heads.
Ceiling Mounted Rain Shower Heads
A ceiling mounted rain shower head is the variation of the device that offers the most realistic feeling of the two. They are mounted directly above the bather’s head, designed to replicate the exact pattern that true rain falls in. Ceiling mounted rain showers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from affordable models to high end luxury designs. Typical ceiling mounted units are either square or circular in design, often measuring two to three feet in length. The larger the unit is in size, the more costly they tend to be. The closer the pulsation pattern can come to a natural rainfall can increase the price of the unit as well. Other models consist of several thin bars or pipes that run the length of the shower, each emitting its own water output. These models, however, are typically found of the higher end of the product lines. The majority of the ceiling mounted models are, in fact, some of the pricier designs on the market. This is due largely to the fact that their installation often requires custom fitting and plumbing line modification.
Wall Mounted Rainfall Shower Heads
A wall mounted rain shower head is designed to mount the same way a standard shower head would be attached. Their ability to fit any standard shower line greatly contributes to their affordability, as compared to ceiling mounted varieties. Wall mounted units are typically round or oval in shape and often simpler in design than ceiling mounted versions. For the most part, the models found at the lower end of the price range within the category are nothing more than standard shower heads that have been increased in size and fitted with a significant;y higher number of holes. While this may not give the bather the experience of a true rain shower, it is affordable enough for the average user to be happy with the basic reproduction. They work on the basis that by expanding the size of the unit and number of holes, you decrease the water pressure being dispersed from each hole, thereby creating a more natural effect. More detailed units are available in the wall mounted category that do more accurately reproduce the exact sensation, often equipped with the same pulsating variations found in ceiling models.
