Framed Shower Tray Enclosures
Framed shower tray enclosures are the most common simply because they have been on the market for the longest. They are often made of an aluminum frame that has been fitted with paneling. The aluminum frame can be oxidized to achieve a variety of colors to match your decor. The panels can be made of tempered glass or acrylic. Framed enclosures are affordable and easy to install, even for do it yourself enthusiasts.
Frameless Shower Tray Enclosures
Frameless tray enclosures are quickly gaining in popularity because of their sleek appearance and streamlined features. Unlike the aluminum support system of the framed enclosures, frameless enclosures rely on one or more fixed glass panels to support the adjoining pieces of the enclosure. The panels are connected to each other with a silicone adhesive that also acts as a water barrier. Any door hardware is mounted directly onto the glass, as well as any decorative brackets. Frameless systems are complicated in design and require professional installation.
Shower Tray Panel Options
Acrylic enclosure panels are rigid and durable. They are the most affordable option for framed shower enclosures and come in a variety of designs. The panels can be tinted for a touch of color, or frosted for added privacy. Some panels are etched with various designs, including floral patterns and other decorative images.
The glass panels that are using in both framed and frameless enclosure systems are also extremely durable. Since the glass is tempered, it will break into small pebble like pieces as opposed to sharp or jagged chunks. Similar to acrylic panels, the glass panels can be tinted or frosted, either in whole or in a design patters. Glass panels are the only style recommended for frameless shower tray enclosures.
Frameless shower tray enclosures are significantly higher in price than traditional framed systems, but their growing market demand shows that consumers are willing to pay extra for their added visual appeal and they will soon replace framed systems are the standard.
