Of all the variety of sink taps on the market, those found in kitchen settings tend to have the highest level of functionality. They are also relied upon for the greatest variety of needs, including washing dishes, preparing meals, and hygiene purposes while preparing food. Kitchen sink taps, however, are one of the simplest in design of all kitchen fixtures. One of the most common designs in the kitchen are referred to as mixer taps. Sink mixer taps are so widely used because of their easy installation, simple structure and their efficient and effective design.

What Is A Sink Mixer Tap?

A kitchen sink mixer tap is essentially the component of the sink faucet that is used to blend the hot and cold water together in order to achieve the desired temperature of the water output. This can be controlled by either dual knobs or levers, each controlling the hot and cold water flow individually, or a single lever or know, determining the water flow and temperature depending on its position. While the overall function of the mixer tap remains consistent, the process by which they operate can vary. Within the category of kitchen sink mixer taps are two basic varieties of designs.

Standard Sink Mixer Tap

A standard mixer tap works on the basic principle of controlling the hot and cold water flow via a ceramic valve. The position of the valve is determined by the use of either the dual lever or singe level faucet controls. The ceramic valve is located at the meeting point of the hot and cold water pipes and changes location accordingly to let a certain percentage of hot and cold water through, at the desired flow rate. The percentage of hot and cold water allowed through combines to create the desired temperature.

Thermostat Sink Mixer Tap

For more advanced faucets, the temperature control is determined via a thermostat device. A thermostat sink mixer is found in areas where the desired water temperature of the water flow needs to remain consistent at all times. The thermostat is used to select the desired temperature at which point it automatically adjust the combination of hot and cold water flows to create the desired output. These types of mixers are common in public restrooms and other similar areas where the sinks are used primarily for one basic operation, requiring a consistent water temperature. As needs change, the thermostat can be adjusted as well in order to, in turn, change the temperature of the water output.
