Small Corner Bathtubs

Most people have never seen or even heard of small corner bathtubs. However, with new home construction beginning to slow down, more and more people are looking at buying older houses that are usually in need of renovation. This can not only save money upfront on the cost of the home, but also allow the homeowners to add their own unique touches during the renovation process. One of the largest obstacles incurred when renovating older homes is the small and cramped sizes of the bathrooms. In an effort to free up more space in the bathroom, while also retaining functionality, many homeowners are beginning to discover the benefits of small bathtubs, and in particular, small corner bathtubs.

What Are Small Corner Bathtubs?

A traditional bathtub is rectangular in shape with a standard size of 5 feet in length. They are usually designed to span the width of the shorter wall in the bathroom furthest from the door. A small corner bathtub is still often 5 feet in its longest size but, because it is triangular in nature, it has far less square footage than a rectangular tub and will take up less real estate in the overall bathroom space. If the bathroom still does not have enough room to accommodate a triangular tub that is 5 feet in length, even smaller options are available through specialty shops or by custom design.

What Are My Other Options?

If the homeowner does not like the idea of using small corner bathtubs to free up space, there are standard rectangular bathtubs on the market as well. Borrowing from the design of traditional bathtubs in Japan, also known as soaking tubs, these small bathtubs opt for height in exchange for width. By raising the sides of the tub and reducing the width and length, the unit is able to accommodate the same amount of bath water volume as a traditional tub. The raised wall option can worked into the design of  corners bathtubs as well.

When bathroom space is limited but functionality still needs to be maintained, a small traditional or corner bathtub may be the perfect solution.
