When most people think of stone, most picture beautiful statues, pebbled flower beds, or solid structure. The last things that comes to mind, for most people, when they think of stone are bathroom sinks. Stone bathroom sinks, however, are quickly gaining in popularity, particularly among high end bathroom design retailers and upscale home improvement stores. With the wide range of stones to choose from that these elegant sinks can be made from, they are perfect for any style of bathroom or décor.

What Are The Most Common Types Of Stone Being Used?

Most consumers are familiar with both granite and marble for use in creating bathroom fixtures, particularly sinks. There are, however, several other types of stone that are frequently used. Onyx is another popular choice, as well as granite composite, a more affordable alternative to the natural variety of the stone.

Onyx Stone Bathroom Sinks

Onyx, for example, is extremely popular, primarily for its wide range of color options. While many people mistakenly believe onyx is always black in color, some of the prettiest variations of onyx stone are deep ivory or golden in color. Onyx is an extremely elegant stone as well as a very durable one. It provides an extremely hard surface that is stain and scorch resistant as well.

Marble Stone Bathroom Sinks

Of course, marble is still an extremely common choice when it comes to bathroom sinks. Its durable surface, resistance to staining and scorching, and ease of maintenance make it an ideal choice for sink creation. The visual appeal of marble is extremely popular because of its multi colored nature. While most slabs of marble stone bear a single primary color, they also contain one or more secondary colors that run within the marble in veins. The elaborate patterns that these color veins create, as well as the variety of colors they can contain, make each slab of marble a one of a kind stone. The multi color nature of marble also allows consumers to choose a sink that contains various colors that will work with a variety of décor palettes they may want to use later on.

Granite Stone Bathroom Sinks

Another of the more common stone types used to fabricate bathroom sinks is granite. Similar to onyx in its durability and comparable to marble in its color variations, granite has long been a popular choice in bathroom design. It can be found naturally in a wealth of colors, ranging from deep blacks to pale ivories. Like marble, natural granite is often veined with color variations as well, creating an artistic combination of visually inspiring designs.

Granite Composite Stone Bathroom Sinks

Since true granite can be somewhat costly, many consumers opt for granite composite sinks. Granite composite is formed using quartz, granite flakes, and a bonding resin in order to produce a moldable liquid that is then cast into a sink. Because the composite material only uses small pieces of the actual stone, the cost for manufacturing a composite sink is reduced greatly. The use of granite composite also gives the manufacturer and, ultimately, the consumer, a greater control over the color variations that the finished product will contain.
