Toilet Repair Parts

The modern toilet is a very simple and efficient piece of technology that, unfortunately, is viewed as something of a black box by most of its users. However, actual mechanics of the toilet are easily visible underneath the lid. Toilets work by storing water above the level of the bowl and releasing it when flushed. This mechanism relies on a number of toilet parts to function. Fixing a misbehaving commode is often as simple as finding the proper toilet repair parts.

The active part of a toilet is actually the simplest part of the system: the flushing lever. This is a simple switch that opens the seal holding the tank’s water above the bowl. Pushing the lever opens the seal and releases the water, flushing away any waste in the bowl. Problems with the flusher, generally referred to as the trip handle, can often be solved by finding the right toilet repair parts. More often than not, a new trip handle or a new rod connecting the handle to the flush seal will easily and cheaply fix a noisy and leaky toilet. If the flush seal isn’t seated correctly, the toilet will constantly release water to the bowl and consequently constantly draw water to refill the flush tank. A new seal can fix this problem and these seals are simple to install.

Another potential problem for a toilet is a failure of the float. The float is a buoyant object in the flush tank that controls the refilling of the tank. Once the float reaches a certain level, it seals the refill valve, which is also referred to as a ballcock valve. Waterlogged floats interrupt this process and lead to the constant refilling of the tank, which causes the excess water to be released into the toilet. Not only does this result in a noisy toilet, but it also increases the water usage of the entire household.

A malfunctioning toilet is not only a source of frustration for the entire household, but also a drain on the water bill. With a little effort and the know-how to find the proper toilet repair parts, however, the toilet can be easily fixed.
