Toilet Tank Parts

Toilets are made up of many different parts that work to create the water siphon that makes a toilet work. Most toilet parts are inside the tank. The most essential toilet tank parts include the filler valve, filler float, and flush valve. A toilet’s main mechanism is to flush, and it does this by using valves that open and close at specific times, creating a siphon in the toiler drain system. The siphon tube is underneath the toilet bowl and sucks the water down when it is activated.

The toilet tank parts control the release and refilling processes of toilet water, and activate the siphon which creates the flush. A standard toilet tank is full of several gallons of water at any given time. A hole at the bottom of the tank is plugged with a rubber plug, or flush valve, keeping the water in the tank. Inside the tank is also a filler valve, which is attached to a water source and refills the tank after flushing; a filler float, which lets the filler valve know when the tank needs refilled; and an overflow tube, which brings water back into the toilet bowl after a flush.

The toilet tank parts come into play as soon as the toilet handle on the outside of the toilet is pushed. The handle is attached to the flush valve. Pushing the handle yanks the flush valve out of the hole and the water in the toilet tank pour into the siphon tube, activating the siphon, which then pulls the toilet bowl water down the tube and into the sewer. This water siphon system is what is commonly known as flushing.

As soon as the toilet handle is released, the flush valve settles back into place, but the tank is already refilling. The flush took most of the water out of the tank, causing the filler float the be near the bottom of the tank. The filler float is attached to the filler valve and if the float is low in the tank, the valve is pulled open, refilling the tank with clean water.
